This piece began from a sketch that I did a while back. I looked through my sketchbook one day, and thought, wow, this could make a great digital image. For the concept, I wanted the tree-structure to look extremely distant and larger than life. It was like it stretched into the outer atmosphere as a space dock for ships, while allowing living space on the planet in the "form" of a tree. I enjoyed working with the way the atmosphere played with the tree-structure. Executed in Photoshop again. My usual brush combination at 70% opacity.
